Senior Consultant & Trainer
Dawn Burke is an HR and talent acquisition leader, national speaker, and writer specializing in modern talent acquisition practices. Her accomplished HR career has spanned the last 20 years, most notably serving as VP of People for award-winning software technology company Daxko, and Director of HR/Talent Acquisition for one the nation’s largest direct mail organizations, Mspark. Dawn has also worked as an independent consultant and trainer to help companies improve their recruiting, interviewing, and talent management practices.
In her HR leadership roles, she oversaw full-service HR teams, including recruiting, training and development, performance management, and compensation/benefits functions. As a member of executive leadership teams, she participated in making company-wide operational decisions, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate talent strategies.
Dawn was responsible and committed to hiring the best talent and sustaining fast-paced, engaging, and profitable corporate cultures. During her executive HR tenures, those organizations considered were employers-of-choice and won such awards as The Great Place To Work/SHRM’s “50 Best Small and Medium-Sized Companies in the US,” Achievers “50 Most Engaged Workplaces in the US,” and the Birmingham Business Journal’s “Best Workplace for Millennials” and “Most Admired Tech Company.”
Designated a “Top HR Innovator,” Dawn’s teams implemented a variety of programs that focused on HR/Recruiting process improvement and creating exceptional candidate experiences. Programs included robust leadership development and interview training, software platform implementations, video interviewing, and executing new sourcing and recruitment marketing strategies.
Dawn Gives Back to the Talent Profession
Dawn has shared her expertise as a sought-after presenter at regional, national, and international Recruiting and HR Conferences. These include LinkedIn Talent Connect, SHRM Talent, ERE, the HR Technology Conference, SHRM National, and many regional SHRM and DisruptHR events. She is a contributor to several national blogs (most notably, Fistful Of Talent, WorkHuman, and SHRM), and has participated in numerous webinars, broadcasts, and podcasts. She has also served on the board for Alabama’s largest SHRM chapter, including service as Chapter President.
Based out of Birmingham, Alabama, she earned a BFA in theatre performance from the University of Southern Mississippi (yes, she speaks with her hands), and obtained a Master’s in HR Management from the University of Alabama. Dawn holds the SHRM -CP and HRCI Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certifications and is a charter member of the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals.
Most importantly, she is addicted to TV and books, loves to cry at movies, finds the best donut shop in every city she travels, thinks wine and a wheel of brie make a well-balanced dinner, and sings in her car/shower/kitchen daily. Her husband and cat are the Yin to her Yang.
