Recruiting Leadership Training for Corporate Recruiting Leaders

Sure, having great recruiting skills is critical to credibly leading a recruiting team, but what often separates the best recruiting leaders from the good leaders has more to do with their ability to influence execs, lead change, build strategy, and motivate and focus busy recruiters. This workshop – called Recruiting Leadership Lab – receives incredibly high ratings from recruiting managers and directors because it delivers practical strategies, tools and techniques (including the language to use to influence and lead) to help Recruiting Leaders lead more effectively.

This is not a general leadership training, focused on giving performance feedback and visions/mission stuff.  This unique workshop – all scenario-based – is completely tailored to the real-world challenges faced by your corporate recruiting leaders.  Your leaders work side by side to tackle their current challenges, and receive real-time coaching and best practice tools and techniques to help them in their real world of competing priorities and limited time and money.

“What a fantastic two days – tremendously valuable.”

VP Enterprise Technology Talent Acquisition, The Walt Disney Company

Listen: What is a Leadership Lab?

Typical Agendas include a focus on:

  • How to build and lead a Quarterly Business Review and drive priorities, gain alignment, and gain commitment from executives
  • How to Build and Present a Quality Business Case to Get Approvals for Additional Investments in Talent Acquisition (Headcount, Programs)
  • How to Influence Execs and Get Buy-in for Strategy
  • How to Build and Communicate a Recruiting Strategy for a Department or Hiring Ramp Up
  • How to Leverage Key Metrics to Plan, Make Quality Decisions, Influence, and Establish your Credibility
  • How to Drive Change and Adoption with Hiring Managers, Execs, and Recruiters
  • How to Coach Recruiters to be Talent Advisors
  • How to Build Scalable Pipeline and Interviewing Strategies and Processes
  • How to Create a Culture of Recruiting with High Hiring Manager Engagement
  • How to Improve Diversity ROI – Building, Influencing, Driving Adoption

We custom-build the training content to align to your goals, your culture, and development opportunities.  We can deliver the training in-person in your offices over ¾ to 1 full day, or virtually, via a tool like Zoom, over multiple days, broken into 2.5-hour modules.

We collaborate with you to build out the right 1.5- or 2-day Recruiting Leadership Lab workshop for your organization.  The training workshop includes presentation, scenario-based practice, small group discussions, all credibly delivered by one of our Senior Consultants, who has years of Director-level corporate talent acquisition leadership experience.  We kick off the engagement to build your training with focus groups to learn more about your current state, challenges, existing internal best practices, and biggest development needs.  The focus groups include calls with business execs and hiring managers, recruiting managers, HRBPs, and the Talent leadership team.  This gives us insights we can use to tailor the scenarios so that your recruiting leaders work on immediately-actionable challenges, and walk away feeling more skilled, more confident as they elevate their conversation with executives and the teams they lead.

After the training, Recruiting Leaders head back to their desks with easy-to-use tools and guides to help them better engage, influence, and lead. This is not some academic workshop focused on the importance of being a strategic leader; it’s all about the “how to.”  Recruiting leaders leave with templates, guides, and tools to help them put the lessons learned in the training stick.

  • Recruiting Strategy Template
  • Recruiting Activity Forecasting Tool
  • Recruiter Performance Diagnostic Tool
  • Recruiter Scorecard
  • Key Metrics and Survey Questions
  • Prioritization Matrix and Criteria
  • Sample SLA Timeline Template
  • Recruiter Capacity Model and Req Load Optimization Tool
  • Hiring Manager Maturity Model
  • Candidate Persona Template
  • Diversity Strategy Self Diagnostic Tool

This custom recruiting leadership training is designed for teams of 12+ new and experienced corporate recruiting managers and directors who lead recruiters and are responsible for recruiting strategy for some or all of their organization, and recruiting team leads. (Also see our public Recruiting Leadership Lab workshops if you are interested in training for just 1 or 2 recruiting managers.)

Titles matter less than roles. To get the most out of this, participants should be in a role where they need to regularly build business cases to justify investments, create, communicate and gain buy-in for recruiting strategies from the business and your team, measure and drive recruiter productivity, and problem-solve difficult team and business-facing issues. Past attendees have included leads who mentor 2-3 recruiters to directors who lead 100+ person TA teams, but all share a common interest in delivering more strategic value to the businesses they partner with to hire great talent into their company.

We conduct focus group calls with your recruiting management team before we design your training. This helps us to customize the content – especially the real-world scenarios your team will work through – to the skill level of the recruiting leaders who will participate.  We get feedback from new recruiting managers to very experienced director-level TA leaders that the training was practical, highly relevant, and credibly delivered.

“Amazing 2-day learning experience.  I put my learning to use before I even made it back to the office.”

Talent Acquisition Manager, Nike

Who hires us?

SAP.  Bloomberg.  Salesforce. Nike. Disney. EA Games. Lidl. Booz Allen. Leading companies, around the world, choose Recruiting Toolbox as a partner when they’re looking to transform their recruiting teams, and help elevate the strategic capabilities of their recruiting leadership team.

Why choose Recruiting Toolbox’s Recruiting Leadership Lab workshop for your recruiting team?

We invest time upfront to learn more about your current recruiting challenges, internal best practices, executive/hiring manager feedback, and goals so that what we build resonates with your diverse recruiting team and leads to change in your real-world of competing priorities and limited time.

Our focus is on training recruiting leaders – but just as importantly, it’s on driving alignment across your recruiting leadership team. We partner with you to ensure that we’re setting realistic expectations for what it means to be a recruiting leader in your own environment, your culture, and your resource model. One of the great outcomes of our training is shared language we can all use when engaging the business.

Our workshops are credibly delivered by former corporate Recruiting Leaders, not generic trainers. We have experience as corporate recruiting leaders, and understand how to engage junior managers to senior recruiting directors, including skeptics who are reluctant to change or maybe even think they have little to learn. We know nobody wants some academic, preachy trainer telling them “you’re doing it wrong” – that’s not us. We get the challenges of recruiting leadership, and it shows up in post-training feedback.

Your recruiting leaders will receive practical tools and guides designed to help them better lead their recruiting teams, influence hiring managers and execs, drive adoption of new strategies and processes, justify new investments in recruiting team capacity, and deliver a strategy/plan to deliver the hires their function/department/geography needs. They’ll also learn very practical phrasing to influence, reframe tactical conversations to be more strategic, get to root issues, and change behaviors of reluctant business leaders or recruiters.

After the training has been delivered, we work closely with you to recommend changes to ensure the best practices stick. How do we get recruiting managers to use these new guides and tools, how do we drive adoption of these new processes, how do we hold them accountable for these new expectations?  We can help.

“Post-training results are night and day better.  We’re pointing our team back to our training session, leveraging what we all learned. Our recruiting managers have their team meetings, where we go back and review certain sections from our workbooks and highlight wins and challenges.   We even send out a “recruiting minute” update on Mondays to keep the training alive.  All of this is part of our plan to hold our teams accountable for putting the best practices into practice.”

Frequently Asked Questions

A typical workshop will have up to 20 corporate recruiting leaders in each workshop, so that we can keep everyone engaged, and keep small-group scenario groups small enough where everyone feels like they’re contributing in your in-person or virtual training.  If you have a team larger than 20 people, we’d deliver multiple sessions.

We really want and need a team of at least 12 recruiting managers to make this workshop engaging and – frankly – for you to be able to justify the investment you’d make in time and money to work with us to build the custom workshop for you.

Yes, we work with big global companies like Disney, EA Games, SAP, Adidas, and Atlassian – they all needed us to deliver multiple sessions to their teams sitting in offices in many countries.  Sometimes clients will fly their team into their regional hubs, and our consultants will travel there to deliver the training in-person over 2 days.  Sometimes we’ll build out the training for virtual delivery, leveraging a tool like Zoom with virtual breakout rooms, and deliver sessions as modules of 2.5 hours each over many days and time zones.

Sorry, it’s not.  This training is built for corporate recruiting teams only.  If you like our approach, you can check out some of our free resources for recruiting leaders here.

It depends on the scope, but fees start at about $35,000.

We’ll bring the confidence – and humility (no big egos here!) – that comes from years of working with unruly, unrealistic, passive-aggressive business execs as well as unbelievably strong partner-oriented hiring leaders.
